The new trends in digital marketing

Marketing has gone from being as simple as A, B, C to a constantly changing formula that needs organisations to become more creative and agile. Consumers don’t want to be marketed to anymore; even having the option to skip and block any advertising whatsoever.

So companies have had to think of creative ways to not only get their products and services out there, but make the consumer care and pay attention. While big organisations can use their financial and human resources to plough a way forward for themselves, smaller companies have had to think out the box and maximise their limited resources.  Here are some of the ways smaller companies and brands can and have adapted with their marketing:

1. Sharing good stories:
The sharing of stories in a sincere and heartfelt manner creates connections with  audiences. Some relate, some empathise and some just love the story so much they want to share it. Stories have been proven to be more memorable and create a greater impact in the minds of the viewer. This is one of the best ways brands that advertise on Youtube, where ads can be skipped, have made consumers not only watch their ads but create a more loyal following.

2. Giving out valuable information for FREE (Just about):
Companies have started promoting their services through free informative reports and guides, that give their users valuable information and insight they can use to grow themselves or their own businesses. This in exchange for basic contact information. With the users details you can now build a relationship with the potential customer and be able to assist them in what feels like a more personal way were you understand their needs better.

3. Podcasts and chill:
After cigarettes got banned from advertising on television they started sponsoring movies to use their products in an attempt to indirectly market their brands. Many other brands followed suit, adding a new branch to advertising altogether. But not everyone can afford the kind of budget needed to sponsor movie scenes so some sposnsored smaller tv and radio shows, and then music videos. Today podcasts and popular Youtube shows are more accessible and affordable, depending on audience reach. Where the host often recommends the sponsor by linking the product with the show.

4. Video Marketing

Video marketing is one of, if not the, most important marketing trend today and likely for the next 5-10 years. These numbers show the importance of incorporating video into your digital marketing strategy in 2021:

  • 70% of consumers say that they have shared a brand’s video
  • 72% of businesses say that video has improved their conversion rate
  • 52% of consumers say that watching product videos makes them more confident in online purchase decisions
  • 65% of executives visit the marketer’s website and 39% call a vendor after viewing a video
